Hello! My name is Sergio Santolo and I am your new Water Cooler Gossip blogger. I’ve recently completed my third year in the Honours Life Sciences program at our one and only, McMaster University. Despite my tendency to procrastinate, I love learning new information and believe that I’m a true academic at heart. Upon graduation, I intend to apply to a Global Health or Health & Aging Masters prior to pursuing a Medical Degree.
I’ve always struggled to write descriptive pieces about myself mainly because I never really know what’s actually interesting to share. I mean, I do pretty average things. I like to exercise, eat, and binge watch Netflix. I’m always willing to explore new places, meet new people, or even lounge around in a coffee shop to write or read a good book. I have a variety of interests that include kayaking, cooking, biking, photography, writing, or maybe even going for a nice drive.
I haven’t always been one to write, but a couple of years ago I found myself writing as a method of decluttering my brain. It eventually became a therapeutic activity and I would set apart some time to write about what I was thinking, or recently experienced. I eventually realized that some of the things I would think about and experience on a day-to-day basis could be relatable in different ways to different people. Soon enough, I stumbled across Water Cooler Gossip and thought it would be a neat way to talk about any day-to-day experiences that the modern day student may come across, and provide my thoughts and ideas regarding or relating to them.
Over the past few years, I’ve grown to call McMaster my home away from home. McMaster has shown me many successes and failures, and has taught me what it means to grow as an individual. McMaster is the place where my life has been significantly influenced in ways that I can’t even completely understand. It’s the place that has taught me much of what traditional education hasn’t been able to teach me, and has moved me to try and inspire others so that they may become the best version of themselves. I hope that throughout my posts you gain a better understanding of the kind of person that I am and what I’m all about.
